What is real estate SEO?
SEO stands for search engine optimization. It is the act of modifying one's website for better search engine visibility. If you're an agent or broker, real estate SEO should be on your permanent "to do" list!

Why is real estate SEO important?
Every time you turn around, new statistics and surveys are being released about the Internet usage of consumers. It all points to one thing -- the majority of buyers and sellers use the Internet for real estate research, so it's critical that agents be visible online.

If you build a website with good search engine visibility for phrases relevant to your services (and location), those buyers and sellers will likely find your website.

However, if your website lacks search engine visibility ... well, then it's more like a grain of sand on a long beach. Sure it's there, but who will ever know?

What's the secret to real estate SEO?
The secret is that there isn't a secret, only good practices carried out over a period of time. Agents also ask me, "What's the trick to SEO?" But tricks are the kind of things that lead to being removed from a search engine's database (they don't take kindly to search engine tricks or "spam").

Instead, focus on building a quality, well-organized website with relevant content. Then seek links from other relevant websites to your own. Then add more relevant content to your site, integrating the kinds of phrase your prospects are searching. Optimize your titles, headers and text hyperlinks. Then repeat the process!

Where can I learn more about real estate SEO?
Misinformation is the biggest challenges when learning about real estate SEO. Everybody has an opinion on the subject, but only the minority of those are educated opinions. People have a way of repeating whatever they hear, regardless of its truth. (Remember when the world was "flat.")
